Not exactly a classic in my books. And I'm terribly sorry, but I've never seen the 1947 version. Let's face it though, I think the only reason I really like it is because it's all about Santa Claus annnnnd out in old Wink-town, "Santa" is a bit of a four letter word. (Don't even get me started). So (does this qualify as ironic? Sharelle?) It sort of seems that Miracle on 34th St. becomes something of a silent protest... thaaat didn't make sense.
