ah, growing up...

I just finished leading a children's day camp. At the end of the first day, an 8 year old girl looked up at me from her colouring and said "Whoa, this is freaky."
"What is?" I said.
"Well, you're here alone? You're in charge?"
"Yep."
"You're like 22 and
you're a punk, how can you be the boss?"
Good fricking question.

A pretty brilliant and cherished friend of mine just put an offer in on a condo. Holy shnikes, I don't want to grow up.
We were talking late into the night (through a possessed phone line and some pretty spastic accidental hangups) and the "3 M's" came up: Marriage, Mortgage and Motherhood.

Oh gross. slash - ohhhh funny. We've even got a (sort of) alliteration for life in general. Fantastic.

Our alternative? The 3 R's: Rent, Regret and Rest.

ah, bliss.

and yes, I spelled out "/".

i don't understand growing up. when i was a kid, everything made sense. there was a little world, and a big world, and one could never really talk or understand the concepts of the other. i was protected and cared for, and entirely ignorant to the greater problems at hand.

now that i'm not exactly a small child, looking back, my whole childhood seems so very dangerous, and almost violently awkward. how could i have never been made aware that there were things like war, sexcrimes, death, cancer, hate, etc.

it seems so simple to say now, but grownups have no idea what the hell is going on, and every decision that we make is made on the shakiest of grounds. afterall, they're only people. there's some comfort in knowing that...

well you will be happy to know that the condo offer didn't go through. in fact, i am actually happy to know that as well. haha.
it turns out the place was infested with ants. it wasn't meant to be.
so at least for the time being, i get to still pretend i am NOT grown up, and that i dont have to buy condos.
i have this sneaky feeling it won't last. i know what you mean about growing up. its like it suddenly came upon us..out of nowhere...shit...those three m's..haha..they'll get us yet.
